Hard work brought Delta
The Erie (PA) Times-News
Airport Director Kelly Fredericks, Director of Strategic Development Chris
Rodgers and other airport officials deserve credit. When they went after
Delta, Erie International was reeling.
Continental Airlines had eliminated flights from Cleveland. US Airways -
stumbling toward bankruptcy - dropped Erie's jet service. (The airline has
since resumed one regional flight.) Nothing was going right.
But rather than sitting back and pointing fingers, airport officials became
proactive. They decided to go out and convince Delta to bring its Comair
regional jet service to Erie International.
The happy result: Delta is the third airline - joining US Airways Express
and Northwest Airlink - serving Erie with regional jets, after beginning
three daily round-trip flights between Erie and Delta's hub at
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
As regional leaders continue rebuilding and realigning the regional economy,
Erie International's hard work offers an effective template. When the news
is terrible - when everything is going wrong - that is the time to redouble
efforts and become creative. Sometimes you just have to roll the dice.
Erie fliers now have access to major airport hubs in Pittsburgh, Detroit and
Cincinnati. It didn't happen by accident.
