House Panel OKs Economic Stimulus Bill With Airport Funding

The House Appropriations Committee late Wednesday approved its version of
economic stimulus legislation, including $3 billion in additional funding
for AIP grants and $500 million in funding for EDS purchase and

The House Ways and Means Committee Thursday is expected to approve
tax-related pieces of the stimulus bill, including relief from the AMT
penalty for airport bonds, AAAE's Airport Legislative Alliance (ALA)

The relevant Senate committees are expected to consider the not-yet-unveiled
Senate version of stimulus legislation next week, ALA staff said. 

ALA staff expect that the Senate bill will include the AMT fix for airport
bonds along with funding for AIP grants and EDS purchase and installation. 

The stated goal of House and Senate leaders is to complete action on a final
stimulus bill prior to the President's Day recess next month.
