Homeland Security Committee Action for the Week of April 16 - 20 

 
The following is a list of upcoming committee and subcommittee hearings and
events for the House Committee on Homeland Security. All are open to the
press. 

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 @ 1pm 1539 Longworth House Office Building The
Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Emerging Threats,
Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology will hold a hearing entitled "Can
BioShield Effectively Procure Medical Countermeasures that Safeguard the
Nation?" Witnesses include Mr. Jim Panek, President and Chief Executive
Officer, VaxGen Inc.; Mr. Richard Hollis, Chief Executive Officer,
Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; James H. Davis, Ph.D., J.D., Senior Vice
President and General Counsel, Human Genome Sciences; Jeffrey Runge, M.D.,
Assistant Secretary for Health Affairs (Acting) and Chief Medical Officer,
Office of Health Affairs, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Gerry
Parker, Ph.D., DVM, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of the
Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services; Anthony Fauci, M.D., Director, National Institutes of
Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services; Jesse Goodman, M.D., MPH (Invited),
Director Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Food and Drug
Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. 

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 from 9am-3pm Rayburn Foyer House Committee on
Homeland Security will be hosting a Border Security Technology Fair. The
event will promote a better understanding of developing and existing
technologies that assist in protecting our borders. There will also be a
Luncheon/Issue Briefing at 12 pm in Rayburn B354. 

Thursday, April 19, 2007 @ 10am 311 Cannon House Office Building The
Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Management, Investigations,
and Oversight will hold a hearing entitled "Addressing the Department of
Homeland Security's Morale Crisis." Witnesses include Hon Marta Perez, Chief
Human Capital Officer, Department of Homeland Security; Ms. Colleen M.
Kelley, President, National Treasury Employees Union; Mr. J. David Cox,
National Secretary-Treasurer, American Federation of Government Employees;
Max Stier, President and CEO, Partnership for Public Service. 

Thursday, April 19, 2007 @ 1pm 311 Cannon Office Building The Committee on
Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Transportation Security and
Infrastructure Protection will hold a hearing entitled "Airport Security:
The Necessary Improvements to Secure America's Airports." 

Witnesses will be by invitation only. Thursday, April 19, 2007 @ 1pm 1539
Longworth Office Building The Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee
on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology will hold a
hearing entitled "Cyber Insecurity: Hackers are Penetrating Federal Systems
and Critical Infrastructure." Witnesses include Mr. Dave Jarrell, Manager,
Critical Infrastructure Protection Program, U.S. Department of Commerce; Mr.
Donald Reid, Senior Coordinator for Security Infrastructure, Bureau of
Diplomatic Security, U.S. Department of State; Mr. Jerry Dixon, Director,
National Cyber Security Division, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Mr.
Greg Wilshusen, Director, Information Security Issues, Government
Accountability Office; Mr. Ken Silva, Chief Security Officer, VeriSign; Mr.
Aaron Turner, Cybersecurity Strategist, National & Homeland Security, Idaho
National Laboratory; Mr. Rob Thomas, President, Team Cymru. 

Friday, April 20, 2007 @ 10am 311 Cannon House Office Building On Friday,
April 20, 2007, the Committee on Homeland Security will meet to hold a
hearing entitled "Responsibility in Federal Homeland Security Contracting."
Witnesses include Ms. Elaine Duke, Chief Procurement Officer, Department of
Homeland Security; Professor Charles Tiefer, Private Citizen; Mr. Scott
Amey, General Counsel, Project on Government Oversight (POGO); Mr. Sean
McGarvey, Secretary-Treasurer, Building and Construction Trades Department,
AFL-CIO; Mr. Alan Chvotkin, Professional Services Council.
