AIRPORT OPERATIONS ASSISTANT
Salary Range: $15.11 - $21.93 hourly / $31,429 - $45,614. 
Recruitment Dates: January 3, 2005 - January 7, 2005. 

Requires two years performing safety and security related functions at a
public-use airport including working with people in varying stressful
situations. The ability to work independently and make sound, on the spot
decisions is essential. At least two years previous experience with
face-to-face customer service is highly desirable. Other combinations of
related experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be
substituted. 

Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be
required. Employees in this class who are skilled in a second language may
be called upon to utilize that skill in the routine performance of their
duties. Involves working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such
as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust. Also involves walking for
prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky
surfaces. All Airport Operations Assistant positions require individuals to
pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) criminal history records check
prior to hire. 

Performs a variety of customer service tasks in airside and landside
operations at the airport. Typical types of duties include heavy
face-to-face public contact, handling inquiries and complaints from airport
users; performing traffic, pedestrian, and crowd control functions;
providing assistance during aircraft and other emergencies; conducting
airport operational, safety, and security inspections and taking appropriate
actions to ensure compliance with airport and federal rules and regulations.
Vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible (hiring) list. 

Based on written exam. The written exam includes questions on English
grammar, spelling, reading comprehension, judgment/reasoning, public
contact, and comprehension of verbal information. Previous score cannot be
reused. 
The City of Phoenix supports a drug-free workplace. After an employment
offer is made, external applicants will be required to take and pass a drug
test. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of this drug
test, and consideration of background, reference, and other job-related
selection information.
