ATTORNEY (Contract Position)

Eligible registers for those positions will be abolished and new
registers established as a result of these examinations.

Closing date for filing applications/resumes: open until filled. 

Salary Range:  $76,100 - $130,000.  Starting salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience.

METROPOLITAN NASHVILLE AIRPORT AUTHORITY

ATTORNEY (CONTRACT)

Job Purpose:

Under general direction of the President, performs functions of in-house
legal counsel for the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA).
In addition, administers and coordinates the legal and business
relationships between the Authority and its contract legal counsel.
Works in accordance with general and special directives with a wide
margin for exercising independent judgment.  

Essential Job Functions:

Serves as the point of contact between the Authority staff, the
Authority's General Counsel and outside legal counsel to ensure
satisfactory and prompt attention to business matters.  Provides legal
opinions in various areas of business law.  As requested, prepares and
assists Authority staff in developing contracts, resolutions and other
legal documents ensuring compliance with local, state and federal law
and adequate legal protection of the Authority. Investigates and
researches facts and laws in order to give opinions on courses of action
in possible litigation.  
        
Routinely confers with the President and other principal staff members
regarding legal administration and serves as legal coordinator,
consultant and advisor for all requests for legal services. Scrutinizes
monthly invoices, conducts record keeping and analyses functions for
budgeting purposes, and prepares informational summaries as requested.

Assists in priority assignments and monitors the timely responsiveness
of requested services; ensures that the appropriate level of legal
expertise is provided.  Acts as liaison between the Authority Staff and
legal counsel to settle disputes related to billing matters or services
rendered.

Performs related work as required.
 
JOB STANDARDS

ATTORNEY (CONTRACT)

Education and Knowledge:
Graduation from an approved college curriculum in the field of law and
licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Tennessee.  Knowledge
of legal principles, statutory and case law, court rules and procedures.
Knowledge of business and law firm management, and general
administration.  

Must possess a valid Tennessee State Driver's License; must maintain
Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) eligibility.  SIDA
eligibility includes a pre-employment personal and employment background
check and a post-employment criminal records' check.

Work Experience:
Minimum of five years of legal experience in business and contract law.
Experience in structuring, drafting and reviewing agreements for
commercial transactions.  Governmental and public legal experience
preferred.  Aviation related legal experience desirable. 

Mental Skills:
The ability to grasp, comprehend and analyze complex legal issues and
complicated factual details. Demonstrated ability to administer,
coordinate and monitor legal services.  The ability to work under
pressure.  Strong written and oral communication skills as well as
negotiation skills.

Manual Skills:
Ability to operate personal computer.

Physical Effort:
Little required.

Working Conditions:
Good.

Safety of Others:
Reasonable care.

Public Relations:
Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external work
relationships.  Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and high
level of professionalism.
