Contra Costa County, California - Public Works

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department is seeking qualified
individuals to fill three entry level Airport Operations Technician
positions at the Buchanan Field and Byron Airports. Under general
supervision, Airport Operations Technicians perform various operations,
maintenance, security, and emergency response duties at airport
facilities. Typical tasks include, but are not limited to: inspecting,
repairing, and maintaining airport facilities and equipment; checking
and clearing ramps, taxiways & runways of foreign objects and debris;
weed abatement; airport pavement striping and lighting; cleaning
restrooms and storerooms; inspecting airport tie downs, aircraft parking
areas and fencing; coordinating airport surface closures with tenants
and the FAA; overseeing repairs and writing work orders; communicating
with pilots, air traffic controllers, fixed base operators, staff and
other agencies using various aviation radios; conducting tours of the
airport to the public; providing security; and responding to airport

Airport facilities are operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the
Airport Operations Technicians are expected to be available to work any
shift assignment, as needed. A shift differential of 5% over the monthly
salary will be paid for shifts that qualify. Training will be provided
and promotional opportunities exist to the Airport Operations Specialist
job classification.

Minimum Qualifications:

License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or a
high school proficiency certificate.

Experience: None.

Special Requirement: Employees in this class are subject to drug and
alcohol testing under provisions of the County's Drug and Alcohol
Testing Program.

Selection Process:

2. Oral Examination (weighted 100%): Applicants meeting the minimum
qualifications listed above will be invited to an interview to be
conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board. Candidates scoring 70% or
better from the majority of the Board will be placed on an employment
list for hiring consideration. The oral interviews are tentatively
scheduled for May 23, 2002.

The Human Resources Department may make changes to the examination steps
noted above in accordance with Personnel Management Regulations and
accepted selection practices.
