Shade-tree mechanics and insurance

I need some anecdotes/war stories about problems that airports have had 
in regards to shade-tree/gypsy mechanics and insurance, especially where 
an airport has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit against a mechanic 
who didn't have the appropriate insurance.  If a phone call would work 
better than an email to the list, please email me and we'll set up a 
time/date for me to call you.  

Jim McCue, I lost the email that you sent me many moons ago re: the 
"horror stories" one of your associates out in the west or southwest 
could tell re: a shade-tree mechanic, could you please give that info to 
me again?
