Bill,
What does the NFPA say about construction of hangars and the fire
systems required? We have a tenant that wants to build an extension to
a hangar that will increase the hangar in size to something over 5000
s.f., but our fire marshall is telling him that the facility will
require a foam system rather that just a sprinkler. They (Fire
Marshall's Office) are of the opinion that the hangar is considered a
Class II structure which requires a foam system. I thought that a Class
II hangar had to be in excess of 24,000 s.f. Do you know of a change in
the NFPA recommendations?

Steve:
It is still considered an enclosed structure....no different than
refueling
with the doors open...
Don't have my NFPA close at hand but no refueling is (should
be)permitted
(recommended)(allowed) within 50' of any structure.
