The only real solution to the problem is to purchase an electronic
fingerprint scanner and send the prints electronically to the clearinghouse
(preferably via a "virtual private network" instead of a dial-up modem).
We've been using such a device for several months now, and we get the
results in about 48 hours. It's not cheap, but it is eligible for grant
funding. We've spent about $35,000 on ours.

I'm having the same problem. Screening here is waiting for the
fingerprints to clear before hiring more people - but some of the prints
have been "in process" for 6 weeks now.
Does anyone remember when the fingerprinting idea first came up about 5
years ago? It looks like were having the problem now that we pointed out
back then - it will take weeks to get the fingerprints turned around, and
we'll have to hold up on hiring employees until the prints clear.
Finally - with the fingerprints taking so long, I keep getting people
coming to my office asking why the reports are taking so long to process.
All that I can tell them is that I just forward the prints, I have no
control over the process.
Is this what everyone else is discovering?

I am having difficulty in getting information back on the individual
fingerprints that we submitted to the Aviation Clearinghouse. The form we
have to use is the ink prints rather than the electronic form. Is anyone
else having the same trouble, or is there anyone that has discovered the
way to get the results in the 7 - 10 days as we have been told it will
take? Some of the prints I submitted were received in Washington almost a
month ago I would like to hear about others experiences and maybe we can
find a way to improve it for all.
