Truckee Airport to celebrate 50th anniversary
The Reno (NV) Gazette-Journal
The Truckee Tahoe Airport is celebrating its 50th anniversary June 14 with
free hamburgers and hotdogs and free commemorative T-shirts.
The day at the airport on Highway 267 begins with the Experimental Aviation
Association's pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by the EAA's Young
Eagle's flights, a free program for youth ages 8 through 17 to meet pilots
and experience flying firsthand. That program runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The 50th anniversary celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and, in
addition to the free food and T-shirts, includes kids games, including a
balsa-wood glider contest, batting cages, painting concrete dividers at the
airport, and airport display and planes on display. The EAA hangar will be
available to view as well as the airport's heavy equipment, including the
snow removal equipment.
Registrants who RSVP online at www.TruckeeTahoeAirport.com can win prizes
donated by Mountain Home Center, Porter's Ski and Sport and Wholesale Resort
Accessories.
The Ninety Nines, the International Organization of Women Pilots and the
United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol are also involved in the
event sponsored by Chevron.
