Hayward airport boss takes job in New York
Second manager to leave since January 2007

HAYWARD - The city airport is losing its second manager in a little over a
year. 

Ross Dubarry, 36, said he is leaving his top post at Hayward Executive
Airport to become manager of an airport in New York state's Adirondack
Mountains region. 

"I'm from the upstate New York area, and I have family there," Dubarry said.
"My reasons for leaving are personal reasons only." 

Dubarry became interim airport manager in Hayward in late January 2007 when
then-manager Brent Shiner took an airport job in New Mexico, also for family
reasons. Dubarry was named permanent manager in August. 

But after more than three years of management experience in the Bay Area,
Dubarry said he is ready to return to his home region. 

"I'm actually going to have to take a cut in pay, but the
cost-of-living-versus-salary ratio is better," Dubarry said. "I'll have more
disposable income." 

Like Dubarry, Shiner also took a pay cut when he left Hayward last year.
City records showed Shiner's annual Hayward compensation was $101,275. His
position in northwestern New Mexico paid $57,422. 

Dubarry is taking a job at Adirondack Regional Airport in Harrietstown,
N.Y., that pays in the "high end" of the $48,573 to $58,623 range, according
to an article on Dubarry's move in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, a local
newspaper. 

He said the small airport receives a number of vacationers traveling to and
from lakefront homes on small commercial flights from Boston. 

Dubarry, whose last day in Hayward will be April 26, said the major project
for his successor will be to finalize airport layout plans that may
including making room for a new service center, hangar and southside
terminal expansion. 

Before becoming manager, Dubarry served as Hayward's airport operations
manager, a position that has been vacant since he took over for Shiner last
year.
