Custom homes OK'd near airport
By Edythe Jensen
The Arizona Republic

A gated cluster of custom homes will go up near Chandler Municipal Airport
over objections from the Planning and Zoning and Airport commissions.

The City Council voted 6-1 Thursday to approve Vina Escondida - a 15-lot
subdivision on 12 acres southeast of McQueen and Germann roads.

City planner Kevin Mayo backed the development and said there is little else
property owners Gary Finlinson and Lance Richards could do with the long,
narrow parcel that backs up against rural homes on acre lots.

Residents in those rural homes have for years fought expansion of the
airport because of its disruption to their lifestyle, and they are opposing
a May 15 bond election to extend the runway. A few of those rural residents
spoke in favor of the custom homes.

George Varga, who owns an aircraft engine business next to the development,
said he gets noise complaints from the rural neighborhood and fears the new
development will bring more.
