Congress To Hold Hearings On Reagan National Airport
Lawmakers To Examine General Aviation's Return
The Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- The House Aviation Subcommittee will hold a hearing
Tuesday afternoon on returning general aviation flights to Ronald Reagan
Washington National Airport.
The hearing will be held in a hangar at the airport.
Private planes, charters and most cargo operations have been barred from
D.C.'s airport since the 911 terrorist attacks.
D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton said Reagan is the only airport in
the country that has remained restricted for general aviation and
charter use.
And, Virginia Democrat Rep. Jim Moran said the loss of flights has
drained $170 million from the local economy.
Language in the Federal Aviation Administration legislation passed last
year requires the Transportation Security Administration to issue a
security plan for return of the service.
