Queen City Airport Reuses Presentation Postponed

Queen City Airport Reuses Presentation Postponed
Allentown Morning Call, PA

A public presentation scheduled for tonight about the
potential reuse of Queen City Airport for commercial
development has been postponed until Feb. 18.

Ed Pawlowski, Allentown's community and economic
development director, delayed his presentation to City
Council because the lawmakers' agenda is crowded, and
he is collecting information about the idea, he said.

The presentation Feb. 18 will be held at 6 p.m.,
before the council meeting.

For years, City Hall administrations have raised the
idea of closing or moving Queen City Airport so the
airfield's 200 acres could be redeveloped for
commercial uses and put back on the tax rolls. That
could generate millions of dollars in tax revenue for
the city, Allentown School District and Lehigh County.

The idea of redeveloping the Queen City property was
last raised by former Mayor William L. Heydt, who
enlisted Carver Mills, a private developer from
Cambria County, to search for a new site and conduct
feasibility and economic impact studies.

Some of the information assembled by Carver Mills,
including the results of a recent study of the
potential economic benefits of redeveloping the
airfield, will be part of Pawlowski's presentation.

The airport is owned by the Lehigh-Northampton Airport
Authority, and its board, along with the Federal
Aviation Administration, would have to approve any
plan for the reuse of the airport property.
