Teterboro Projects Face a Challenge
The New York (NY) Times
HACKENSACK, N.J., A coalition of officials from Bergen County and 13 of
its communities have asked a judge to halt improvement projects at
Teterboro Airport until air quality tests are completed.
The group sued the airport's owner, the Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey, in February to force the agency to conduct an environmental
review of the airport. The officials say they fear that plane traffic
will increase and cause more air pollution.
Stuart Lieberman, lawyer for the group, known as the Coalition for
Health and Public Safety, asked for an injunction this week in United
States District Court in Newark, seeking an immediate halt to
construction at the airport, which is primarily used for business
aviation.
The authority has commissioned an environmental study; the results are
expected to be released soon, said an authority spokesman, Pasqale
DiFulco.
