Airport has $300,000 to work with
BY GARY GEORGE
The Victorville (CA) Daily Press
APPLE VALLEY - Three grants from the Federal Aviation Administration
totaling $300,00 have been lined up for renovation programs at Apple
Valley Airport.
Two of the grants have just been confirmed and will be added to the
third grant of $150,000 that was received last year.
Apple Valley Airport is operated by the County of San Bernardino.
According to First District Supervisor Bill Postmus, it has been a
priority for the county to apply for the federal dollars, which are
granted for use towards specific purposes.
According to Bill Ingraham, director of airports for San Bernardino
County, the federal funds are meant to cover 90 percent of a project
while the county must match the other 10 percent, which comes from
airport fee revenues.
Ingraham said that $60,000 must be used for the update of the Airport
Layout Plan, a planning blueprint that shows pavement, approaches and
runways and includes several different drawings including a
topographical map.
The remaining $240,000 is being used for reconstruction of a
deteriorating ramp.
The ramp is used for aircraft parking and helicopter landings. It also
includes some taxiways.
Ingraham said that enough money is in hand to start the bidding process
on the work and that the county receives the federal money after the
work is done.
