F-16s enforce new Colorado air rules
The Salt Lake (UT) Tribune
A pair of military F-16s forced a student pilot and his instructor
to land in Colorado's Fort Collins this week after they had strayed into
newly restricted airspace.
The incident came on a day when some airport operators bridled at
the latest anti-terrorist measures that shut down three Colorado
airports.
On Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded private
flights at all airports within 11.5 miles of any nuclear facility.
In Colorado, that includes the defunct Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons
plant in Jefferson County and the decommissioned Fort St. Vrain nuclear
power plant in Weld County.
The student pilot may not have been aware of the new restrictions,
officials said.
