Private planes restricted in 15 urban areas
The Associated Press
Flights by private planes are limited in 15 urban areas under rules
imposed since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. In those areas, all pilots
must file flight plans with the Federal Aviation Administration, as if
they were operating under instrument flight rules. The only exception is
for flight training in small airplanes. Ninety percent of the private
traffic in those areas normally would fly under visual rules where no
flight plan is required.
No private plane flights at all are allowed within 20 miles of Kennedy
Airport in New York and Reagan National Airport near Washington.
The limited areas are:
Atlanta
Boston
Chicago
Denver
Detroit
Las Vegas
Los Angeles
Miami
New York City
Orlando, Fla.
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
San Diego
San Francisco
Washington
