Arkansas airport improvements result of February meeting

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The Arkansas Department of Aeronautics Commission
approved requests for seven new state airport improvement grants and
amendments to two at its February meeting.
Saline County (M99), new terminal building, $5,030; Walnut Ridge (ARG), new
terminal building, $50,000; Searcy (M07), pave taxiway, $5,000; Monticello
(LLQ), development of Airport Master Plan, $2,500; Mena (M39), ILS, site
work, fencing for east RPZ of 09/27, $74,500; Boone Co./Harrison (HRO),
access apron to hangar, $7,500; N. Little Rock (1M1), drainage improvements,
$75,000.
Amendments to an existing grant at Bald Knob (M74) would upgrade lighting to
MIRL and relocate the windsock with an additional $8,378, for a total of
$17,813. At Marianna (6M7), the project was changed to include purchase of
4.4 acres, obstruction removal and relocation, earthwork/excavation and
engineering without any change in funding.
In other Arkansas aviation news, the state’s 34th annual Flight Instructor
Clinic drew 160 to its February 5-6 session at Gatis Aviation in Little
Rock. The 16-hour refresher course is sponsored by the state aeronautics
agency.
