Airport security supervisor accused of using slain man's ID
By Michael Winter
USA TODAY
A Newark airport security supervisor has been accused of using the identity
of a New York man murdered 20 years ago to live and work in the United
States, according to news reports.
Nigerian native Bimbo Olumuyiwa Oyewole, 54, was arrested today at his home
in Elizabeth, N.J. Authorities said he has been in the country illegally
since 1989 and had assumed the identity of Jerry Thomas, who was slain in
Queens in 1992, the Associated Press says.
During the past two decades, Oyewole has worked for several private security
contractors and passed background checks, including those by the New Jersey
state police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. His current employer,
FJC Security Services, has held the contract since 2003.
Oyewole was in charge of about 30 guards at Newark Liberty International
Airport.
The Transportation Security Administration' said it was reviewing the Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey's procedures for validating employee
and contractor documents.
"This investigation indicates that the individual's identification documents
were presented to the Port Authority for verification about a decade before
TSA existed," the statement said.
In a report released today, the TSA singled out the Newark airport for
several high-profile security breaches.
