Airport, seaport heightens alert for influx of passengers

THE Aviation Security Group in Dumaguete City is still on heightened
alert status for the expected influx of passengers until Tuesday.
Police Chief Inspector Miller Guzman said that based on study, influx of passengers will be from Easter Sunday until Tuesday.
He
said foreign and local tourists who spent the long weekend vacation
anywhere in Negros Oriental and Siquijor are expected to return to
Manila before the workday schedule, but because there are only four
trips for Manila from Dumaguete City every day, airline companies could
not accommodate them until Monday.
In this connection, he said, bad elements are also expected to take advantage of the situation.
Guzman is confident, however, that scanner machines will block all illegal baggage.
Additional police personnel and K9 dogs were also deployed in the airport to prevent any untoward incident.

Seaport terminal supervisor Leopoldo Geconcillo, meanwhile, said
the scanner machine at the Dumaguete City port terminal is out of order.
With this, he said port security personnel need to implement open baggage policy for everybody’s safety.
He said although he is confident that illegal baggage can be
prevented, it would still be faster if the scanner machine is working.
He said Coast Guard’s K-9 dog will help them recheck the passengers’ baggage.
Geconcillo advised passengers to avoid bringing unlicensed firearms and even pointed and sharp objects.
Carpenters’ tools are also deposited but he assured it will be turned over upon arrival in Manila port.
He said the “no overloading policy” is strictly implemented by Coast Guard personnel to all passenger boats and fast crafts. (VLC/Sunnex)
