Mayor David Bieter has named Rebecca Hupp the new director of the Boise Airport. Hupp replaces Richard McConnell, who abruptly left this position in November.

Hupp has 18 years of experience as an airport executive. Since 2001, she has served as director of Bangor (Maine) International Airport, where she is responsible for day-to-day operations and long-term planning and development. Hupp has served in that position since 2001.

“Boise is a wonderful city. I am honored Mayor Bieter has selected me for the position of airport director,” Hupp said in a news release.“I look forward to being confirmed by the city council, beginning work and becoming an active member of the community.”

More from the press release:

Prior to serving in Bangor, Hupp was the airport manager of the Aberdeen Regional Airport in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She began her career with the Kansas City Aviation Department where she served in several key positions including operations, marketing and business development.

Hupp has been an active participant in her local community. In addition to her current duties as airport director, Hupp serves as a board member for a number of organizations including the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Tourism Commission, the Maine Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and on the advisory committee to several local universities. She is an accredited member of the American Association of Airport Executives and is a frequent speaker on industry issues. In 2008, Hupp was appointed to the Board for the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and is currently the president of the organization.

Hupp’s appointment requires approval of the City Council, which will be considered at the Council’s Jan. 24 meeting. If approved, Hupp is expected to begin work in April. City of Boise IT Director Garry Beaty, who has served as interim airport director since McConnell’s departure, will continue in the role until Hupp’s arrival.

“The Boise Airport is a major economic driver for Boise and all of southwest Idaho,” Bieter said. “It is critical that it has a dynamic leader with the vision and expertise to guide the airport out of this recession and into a productive and successful future.”
