Description:

Members of the Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response team direct traffic through a checkpoint Wednesday at the Sarasota- Bradenton International Airport.

SARASOTA -- Federal safety regulators spent the morning Wednesday testing security measures in place at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security were assisting local airport authorities with the mandatory quarterly exercise.

Motorists entering the airport were randomly pulled aside, searched and run through the system.

Officials said the exercise was a just a test, and there’s no specific threat at this time.

“We see a lot of people trying to carry guns into the airport,” Airport Police Chief James Carlino said. “We’re also making sure they don’t have a warrant out or that they’re not on the terrorist list, things like that.”
