Schiphol airport to invest in expansion, passenger numbers up 10%
DutchNews.nl
Amsterdam's Schiphol airport is to invest billions of euros in expanding its
terminals and on new security systems, and the cost is likely to be passed
on to passengers, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.
Last year, Schiphol processed almost 50 million passengers, a 10% increase
on 2010. This boosted Schiphol into fourth place above Madrid in the
European airport rankings, Nijhuis is quoted as saying on Monday evening.
'We have to grow alongside the big European airports in order not to lose
traffic. Investing is essential and we will still be cheaper than London,
Frankfurt and Paris,' the paper quoted Nijhuis as saying.
This year, passenger numbers will be stable and cargo shipments may shrink
slightly, he said.
