LONG BEACH - Long Beach Airport has been named the nation's most affordable
airport in a survey based on average customer fares at 101 facilities.

Passenger tickets averaged $223 at Long Beach, far outranking regional
competitor Los Angeles International, which ranked 88th. Fares at John Wayne
Airport in Orange County averaged $284, putting the airport fifth on the
list.

"We're proud to be recognized as the most affordable airport in the
country," said Long Beach Airport Director Mario Rodriguez.

The survey by Cheapflights.com, an online airline booking company, looked at

101 U.S. airports, ranking them on average fares paid by customers in June
to the most popular destinations.

Fares at LAX averaged $484 and John Wayne $284, with the most expensive,
Honolulu International, at an average fare of $667 and Anchorage
International at $639.

The top five most affordable were Long Beach, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank,
General Mitchell Airport in Wisconsin, Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania and
John Wayne.
