First airport to be privatized
Iran - The Tehran Times
TEHRAN - The privatization of Ramsar Airport has been finalized, said the
managing director of the Iranian Airports Holding Company on Friday.
Talking to MNA, Asghar Ketabchi said that the deal for offering the first
airport to the private sector will be signed on Saturday.
According to the deal all the airport operations except flight safety,
security, and control will be vested to the private sector.
"The development plans of the airport have been given to the private sector
for them to take appropriate measures for setting up there workshops,"
Ketabchi added.
According to MNA, 20 airports will be privatized in the future.
According to the Fourth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2005-2010), the
Privatization Organization of Iran affiliated to the Ministry of Economic
Affairs and Finance is in charge of setting prices and ceding shares to the
general public and on the stock market.
In 2007, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei called on government officials to
speed up the implementation of the policies outlined in the amendment of
Article 44, and move towards economic privatization.
