Man arrested after box-cutters found on plane
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation
Australian Federal Police (AFP) have confirmed a man has been arrested for
carrying two box-cutter blades on to a plane travelling from Perth to
Christmas Island.
It is alleged the 23-year-old man smuggled the blades on to the plane last
Friday.
Police say he was initially arrested for smoking on the aircraft but a
search of his possessions uncovered the blades.
The man has been released on bail and is believed to be in Malaysia where he
was due to get married.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Cocos Island in March.
Perth Airport says it will investigate how the man managed to get through
security checks at the terminal with box cutter blades in his hand luggage.
Perth Airport general manager of corporate affairs, Malcolm Bradshaw, says
the security breach is concerning.
"We'll be getting details of this incident from the Federal Police and we'll
be conducting a thorough investigation of this issue," he said.
