Merry Christmas: Airlines raise fares again
By Jason Garcia
The Orlando (FL) Sentinel

The nation's network airlines have joined forces in another round of fare
hikes, according to FareCompare.com, adding roughly $10 to the cost of most
round-trip tickets.

According to FareCompare, the parade began Dec. 20 when United Airlines
increased most of its one-way fares by $5. By Christmas Eve, United had been
joined by Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, US
Airways, Northwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines, the website reported.

"It appears domestic airfares will finish up the year at a record high since
FareCompare.com began tracking them over 3 ½ years ago. The previous high
was recorded in the summer of 2006 after a wave of airfare increases in the
late spring/early summer last year," FareCompare CEO Rick Seaney said in an
e-mail.
