Rate hike hits airport lots
PARKING | Hourly fee unchanged but daily charge will jump Saturday

Parking-rate increases at O'Hare and Midway airports take effect Saturday.

The daily rate at O'Hare's main garage will increase to $30 from $26, and in
the International Terminal, to $50 a day from $30. Economy lot rates will go
up to $16.

At Midway, the daily rate will increase to $28 from $25.

Hourly rates at both airports will not change.

Mayor Daley proposed the increases in September as a way to generate an
additional $24 million a year for airport operations.

The hikes are also meant to steer people toward the economy lots, so that
the main terminal garages will not be filled to capacity, as they usually
are at least three times a week.

It's the first time airport parking rates have increased since 2003, the
city's Aviation Department said.

While comparable to rates at Los Angeles Airport and JFK Airport in New
York, O'Hare's new daily rate is more than double that of Atlanta's
Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
