Security Breach Leads To Monster Lines At Oakland Airport
KNTV Ch 11 (NBC), San Francisco (CA)
Authorities continue to search for a man who walked through an exit lane at
Oakland International Airport this morning, forcing checkpoints in terminals
1 and 2 to be temporarily closed, according to a Transportation Security
Administration spokesman.
The man got into a "sterile area" around 9 a.m. and the TSA closed the
security checkpoints so the area could be inspected, TSA spokesman Nico
Melendez said.
"People get misdirected like that. They don't know where they are going so
they go the wrong way," Melendez said. "It was not a breach, it was an
incident."
The terminals were not evacuated; passengers were just not allowed to pass
through the checkpoints, he said.
Security lines were reopened by 10:30 a.m.
The line to get into the Southwest terminal backed up on to the terminal
road.
Chopper11 showed at least 300 people waiting in a line that stretched some
200 yards.
Airport officials told NBC11 all passengers would make it to their flights
because they would hold flights until everyone could make it through
security.
