Lines get longer at Stewart
Mid-Hudson (NY) News Network
Stewart Airport - Between of the addition of Delta's new fights to Atlanta,
which began Monday, and modifications in departure times for the other
airlines at Stewart Airport, the security screening line at the Newburgh
facility was longer than usual. And, in recent months, with AirTran and
JetBlue service, the lines have been pushing customers' patients at times.
The airport says more security screeners are needed; the federal
Transportation Security Administration says there are enough at Stewart and
that they would reassess the situation if more flights are added.
Airport spokeswoman Tanya Vanasse said no one missed a flight because of the
screening back up, but "there was an awful rushing and getting people
through ahead because a flight was leaving. It was more of a backup than
we'd like to see."
Couple that with back room baggage screening equipment that the airport says
is in dire need of a major upgrade, and the overall screening process was
taxed. "We're looking for more advanced equipment so that we can screen the
bags faster," said Vanasse.
