MAC approves NWA fee break
The Minneapolis (MN) Star Tribune
The Metropolitan Airports Commission gave final approval Wednesday to a $239
million break on airport fees for Northwest Airlines in return for the
airline keeping its hub and headquarters in the Twin Cities.
The plan will lower fees that all airlines pay at the Minneapolis-St. Paul
International Airport from 2006 to 2020 in the hopes of making the airport
competitive. Other airlines will pay $40 million less under the new rates.
The agreement will take effect only if it is approved in Bankruptcy Court as
part of Northwest's restructuring. The company is expected to submit it to
the court next week.
