Airport director honored
By Carlton Proctor
The Pensacola (FL) News Journal
Pensacola Regional Airport Director Frank Miller has been selected as the
2006 Air Carrier Airport Manager of the Year by the Federal Aviation
Administration.
Miller was chosen over all other airport managers in the FAA's Southeast
Region, which includes Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina
and South Carolina.
In naming Miller, the FAA cited the airport's 53 percent increase in
passenger growth over the past five years as well as the $100 million
terminal and runway improvement projects under way at the city-owned
facility.
"Frank Miller has been instrumental in the long-term success of the
Pensacola Regional Airport," said Rusty Chapman, manager of the FAA's
Southeast Airports Division. "His tenure has been marked by sustained growth
and excellence."
Miller said Thursday he was surprised by the news.
"I did not know I was in the running until I received a phone call from
Atlanta (FAA Southeast headquarters), and it caught me by surprise. I'm
really honored, especially seeing what other airport directors around the
Southeast have done."
Miller is scheduled to receive the award from FAA officials during a
Pensacola City Council meeting June 28.
In addition to his duties as airport manager, Miller is set to serve as
secretary/treasurer of the Airports Council International-North America.
