Lindbergh Field drill to target attempted plane highjacking
The San Diego (CA) North County Times
SAN DIEGO ---- An overnight emergency drill to test how well area agencies
respond to an attempted highjacking at Lindbergh Field in San Diego will
start at 10 tonight on the north side of the airport, authorities said.
The FBI, Transportation Security Administration and local law enforcement
and emergency response agencies will participate in the drill, scheduled to
end at 5:30 a.m. Friday.
Sharie Shipley, spokeswoman for the San Diego County Regional Airport
Authority, said the effort by about 75 people from a dozen agencies won't
affect any flights.
"No one will even know what's happening around the airport," Shipley said.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires emergency drills at least every
three years at major airports.
However, the county's Airport Authority holds full-scale exercises more
often, according to the FBI.
