Feds question passengers at Fla. airport
The Associated Press
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Federal authorities detained and searched passengers
arriving from New York City on the tarmac at Orlando International Airport.
Federal officials would only confirm that there was an incident at the
airport Thursday night. They would not describe what took place after Delta
Flight 1227 landed.
"It's part of an ongoing investigation," FBI spokesman Kevin Farrington
said.
Earlier Thursday, a man breached security at New York's John F. Kennedy
International Airport, forcing parts of two terminals to be evacuated,
authorities said. The man eluded capture and had not been found by Thursday
evening. Federal officials would not say if the incidents were related.
Renee Kahle, who was on the flight, told the Orlando Sentinel that
passengers were evacuated from the aircraft through a rear door and were
surrounded by police officers. When the plane was empty, several armed
officers ran from the rear of the plane to the cockpit, she said.
Farrington said agents did not run to the front of the plane. He deferred
further comments to the Transportation Security Administration, which
handles security at airports.
There were about 140 passengers on board the flight, Orlando airport
spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said. She deferred comments to either the FBI or
TSA.
TSA spokesman Barry Phelps told the Sentinel he was unaware of what happened
in Orlando.
