Women, minorities share airport work
The Indianapolis (IN) Star
Roughly 22 percent of the contracts at the new airport terminal have been
awarded to businesses owned by women and minorities, project officials said
today.
Through the end of 2006, 189 such firms secured $167.5 million worth of work
on the new terminal, parking garage and roadway system.
"Throughout this project, the Indianapolis Airport Authority has been
dedicated to providing opportunities so that every segment of the business
world can participate," project director John Kish said in a statement.
The $1.07 billion new terminal is scheduled to open in late 2008.
The airport project's minority and women participation is slightly higher
than at Lucas Oil Stadium, which is scheduled to open in August 2008.
At that project, $106.8 million worth of contracts -- or 19.35 percent --
have been awarded to minority- and female-owned businesses through March 21.
