BAA faces airport ownership probe
United Kingdom - Press Association
BAA's ownership of London's main airports is under threat after the operator
was referred for a full-blown competition inquiry.
The Office of Fair Trading said it had decided the supply of airport
services by BAA merited further investigation by the Competition Commission.
The referral came as the Commission also received proposals about how much
operator BAA can charge airlines at the UK's biggest airports, Heathrow and
Gatwick.
The plans, sent by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to the Competition
Commission, cover the period 2008/13.
BAA runs seven UK airports, operating at Stansted, Southampton, Glasgow,
Edinburgh and Aberdeen, as well as at Heathrow and Gatwick.
