Airport exec goes to airline
By SUZANNE MARTA
The Dallas (TX) Morning News
Kevin E. Cox, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport's chief operating
officer and second in command, will join American Airlines Inc. as its vice
president for state and community affairs.
Mr. Cox replaces John Carpenter, who recently retired from the Fort
Worth-based airline.
American officials said that Mr. Cox was chosen for his 16 years of
experience at D/FW Airport - in particular, his role in drafting the
agreement for the Wright amendment compromise and leading D/FW's $2.7
billion expansion.
"Kevin brings to the American Airlines team a wealth of experience and years
of political know-how from working in one of the most competitive airline
markets at one of the world's largest, busiest and best-regarded airports,"
said Gerard Arpey, American's chairman and chief executive.
Mr. Cox will begin his new job April 8.
Jeff Fegan, D/FW Airport's chief executive, said Mr. Cox had made an
"extraordinary impact on every aspect of our business."
He also said the airport has no immediate plans to replace Mr. Cox and will
continue to review D/FW's organizational structure. The airport's executive
vice presidents will now report directly to Mr. Fegan.
Shares in American parent AMR Corp. fell 62 cents Wednesday to close at
$20.62.
