Sac Airport Terminal Evacuated
By Jason Kobely

Several hundred passengers were evacuated from
a Sacramento International Airport terminal Sunday after a problem with security
equipment following a power outage, an airport spokeswoman said.

The
outage hit the airport's Terminal B around 10:20 a.m., according to Sacramento
International spokeswoman Cheryl Marcell.
When power came back 30 minutes
later, Marcell said a power surge appeared to cause a Transportation Security
Administration X-ray machine to start smoking. Witnesses saw a light haze
throughout the terminal, setting off a smoke alarm.
As a precaution,
passengers were forced to leave the terminal while TSA officials worked to get
replacement screening equipment in place.
Passengers were allowed to
re-enter the terminal around 11:30 a.m.
Marcell said the shutdown caused
a handful of delays for both incoming and outgoing flights.
