Businessman wants airport chairman out
The Orlando (FL) Sentinel
Fallout continues from the $66,000 raise approved for Orlando Sanford
International Airport President Larry Dale.
Businessman Stan Sandefur suggested in a letter to city leaders that the
airport board's chairman, Geoffrey Longstaff -- who had asked for Dale's
raise -- consider resigning.
Sandefur also questioned a business partnership approved by the board.
That's where airport land leases will buy equity in a business that plans to
build office-warehouse space.
"The citizens of Sanford bear the impact of the financial operations of the
airport, and it should not be used as a vehicle to increase the wealth of
particular individuals," Sandefur wrote.
Don't hold your breath
Sandefur's letter hit a nerve with Longstaff.
According to Sandefur, Longstaff stormed into his office not long after the
letter was sent to the City Commission and the airport's board. Longstaff
tossed a copy of Sandefur's letter -- the one about how he ought to resign
-- onto a receptionist's desk, Sandefur said.
Longstaff had written and signed his response on it: "Be a cold day in hell
before this happens, Jeff." Longstaff could not be reached for comment.
