Loney Named CEO of DIA Partnership
By Chris Walsh
The Denver (CO) Rocky Mountain News
The DIA Partnership, created more than a decade ago to foster growth near
Denver International Airport, has named aviation veteran Mary Rose Loney as
president and chief executive officer.
Loney replaces Julie Bender, who helped create the partnership when DIA
opened and has served as its leader since, effective Nov. 1.
In her new position, Loney, 54, will be responsible for heading development
and public policy initiatives covering a vast swath of land surrounding DIA.
She'll also guide the public-private organization as it strives to meet the
changing needs of one of the metro area's fastest-growing regions.
The DIA Partnership said Loney's experience was a key factor in the
decision. Loney has worked in the aviation industry for 27 years and has
managed major airports in cities such as Chicago and Philadelphia. Most
recently, she founded an airport and aviation consulting group based in
Satellite Beach, Fla.
"She has a very strong background on airport management, economic
development and even public policy," said Jeff Willis, chairman of the
partnership and executive vice president at Berkeley Homes. "She's a very
dynamic woman and we feel she'll be a great leader for the organization."
The DIA partnership was founded to help spur growth on several hundred
square miles of open land surrounding the airport and encompassing parts of
four cities. Today the area is a hotbed for development, with billions of
dollars in new homes and businesses under construction or in the works.
Loney said she'll work to "continue the legacy of the partnership and build
upon" its accomplishments, helping the airport and the land around it grow.
"I think we'll we need to be looking at getting some international service
and expanding domestic service options at the airport," Loney said. "There
will also be some interesting challenges with access to the airport, and
we'll certainly be looking at ongoing economic development opportunities and
public policy issues."
