BILL PASSED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SCREENERS AT SONOMA AIRPORT
KPIX-TV Ch 5 (CBS), San Francisco (CA)
The Bay Area's congressional delegation succeeded in getting additional
federal screeners for the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport before
Congress adjourned Friday.
Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, D-Petaluma, said a Homeland Security Conference
Report provides for additional passenger and baggage screeners at the
airport, where Horizon Air plans to start flights to Seattle and Los Angeles
in March.
Woolsey and Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Napa Valley, wrote to Michael Chertoff,
head of the Department of Homeland Security, asking him to support
additional screeners.
Woolsey said Sen. Dianne Feinstein also inserted language for additional
screeners into the conference report. The Senate and the House passed an
appropriations bill for the additional screeners on Friday, Woolsey said.
The Department of Homeland Security said in August that budget constraints
and a limit in the number of screeners jeopardized assigning additional
screeners at the county airport, which hasn't seen passenger flights by a
regional airline for five years.
