Officials aware of airport faults
Canada - Sun Media

MONTREAL -- A Transport Canada representative admits that the department had
been aware of some security flaws at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau
International Airport for some time.

But Transport Canada still launched into an inquiry yesterday in an attempt
to confirm the shortcomings revealed by a Sun Media investigation.

Francois-Nicolas Asselin, a Montreal-based Transport Canada spokesman, was
adamant from the start the department is taking the investigation's
revelations "very seriously."

"Measures were underway to correct those situations," Asselin said.

Cara Operations Ltd., a company contracted to prepare and deliver food to
airplanes, said it has begun a "high priority" investigation after Sun Media
reporter Fabrice de Pierrebourg gained entry to its facilities by following
its employees into the building and even opened some of its food carts.

"The focus is only on passengers. But no one appears to be monitoring the
rear entrance. Nobody cares," said Michael Boyd, a U.S. aviation specialist.

Glenn Winn, an aviation expert at the University of South California, said:
"What your reporter did, it's what the airline companies should do."
