TSA official won't comment on airport security
By Chris Joyner
The Jackson (MS) Clarion-Ledger
Federal Security Director Larry Rowlett declined to answer questions this
morning regarding controversies surrounding security measures at
Jackson-Evers International Airport.
Rowlett, flanked by Transportation Security Administration employees, made a
brief statement acknowledging the fifth anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist
attacks.
"We know our mission well. We will get it right and we will get it right
every time," he said.
When asked if TSA operations were the target of a federal investigation,
Rowlett said he would take questions on the subject submitted by email.
Current and former TSA workers have alleged serious breaches in airport
security, including efforts to cheat airport inspections and failing to
follow regulations on contraband.
The Clarion-Ledger has been denied access to some documents on the basis
they might compromise a potential or ongoing federal investigation. The
paper is appealing the decision.
