Crews still cleaning up from FLL fuel spill
The South Florida Business Journal
So far, the Broward County Aviation Department said work crews have
recovered about 7,000 to 8,000 gallons of jet fuel from Tuesday's spill near
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The department said it was originally reported that 2,500 to 3,000 gallons
of jet fuel spilled at the construction site between the Palm and Hibiscus
garages.
"Clean-up crews continue to work on the fuel/water separators and
containment pond," the department said, adding the spill is contained with
no threat of migration to the Dania Canal.
Sometime Friday, the department said workers will take soil samples from the
construction site to determine contamination levels.
The current thinking is a dump truck at the construction site drove over a
manhole cover containing a ventilation pipe, causing the fuel leak.
