Town opposes Logan taxiway
The Boston (MA) Globe

WINTHROP -- The Town Council issued a letter to Federal Aviation
Administration officials last week stating their opposition to a proposed
taxiway at Logan International Airport.

Town officials and opponents of the project said that the environmental
impact report is incomplete in its analysis of pollutants and health risks
to residents in Winthrop and East Boston.

The 9,300-foot taxiway, which some argue would put idling planes 1,000 feet
closer to residential neighborhoods, is being touted as a way to reduce
flight delays.

In their letter, the Town Council asked that the 30-day public comment
period, which is scheduled to end Aug. 21, be extended by 60 days through
Oct. 20. The postponement would be to give people who are on summer
vacations a chance to submit comments, according to the letter.
