Bay Area airports ready for holiday rush
By Jessie Mangaliman
The San Jose (CA) Mercury News
With good weather and plenty of parking, airports in San Jose, San Francisco
and Oakland are geared up for the busy Memorial Day weekend, officials said.
The largest number of people, about 418,000, are expected at San Francisco
International Airport during the long holiday weekend, according to Linda
Perry, airport duty manager.
At the Mineta San Jose International Airport, about 195,000 are expected. In
Oakland, officials expect 265,000 passengers over six days.
Today is going to be the busiest day of the holiday weekend, airport
officials said, and they urged passengers to arrive at least 90 minutes
before their flights to allow for longer security and check in lines.
Rosemary Barnes, spokeswoman for the Oakland Airport, said she expects about
50,000 passengers to pass through today, about the same as last year. San
Jose is expecting about 38,000 and San Francisco 42,000.
There should be plenty of parking at all three airports, officials said. In
San Jose, passengers are guaranteed space in long-term parking, said Rich
Dressler, spokesman for Mineta San Jose. If long-term parking is not
available, passengers can park in short-term parking space at the cheaper
long-term parking rate, Dressler said.
A similar deal is being offered in San Francisco.
