Kern County Airport Director calls it quits
KGET-TV Ch 17 (NBC), Bakersfield (CA)
BAKERSFIELD - After more than 10 years as Kern County Airports Director, Ray
Bishop has announced he is retiring.
Bishop announced he will be leaving Meadows Field on Sept. 15.
He plans to take over as Director of the Airport in Jackson Hole, Wyoming,
and says the timing is right for the move.
During his term as Kern County's Airport Director, Bishop changed the face
of Meadows Field by persuading supervisors and Congress to build a new $36
million terminal; a runway expansion; and construction for a new U.S.
Customs facility at the old terminal is underway.
Bishop was able to recruit three new airlines to serve Bakersfield and he
has helped boost passenger traffic to help Meadows Field become one of the
fastest growing airports in the west.
