$200 mln pledged for new Dulles airport runway
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The federal government pledged $200 million on
Tuesday to help build a fourth runway at Washington Dulles airport, the
Transportation Department said.
The runway and related taxiways will allow Dulles to handle up to 50 percent
more flights per hour during certain conditions and make it easier for
aircraft to land during bad weather, Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta
said in a statement.
Dulles is one of the fastest growing airports in the United States, handling
more than 27 million passengers in 2005.
The total cost of the project, due to be completed in 2008, is $356 million.
