Quad-City airport a finalist in restroom contest

MOLINE, Ill. - There is some refreshing news coming out of the Quad-City
International Airport: its restrooms are clean - really clean.

The airport is among the finalists in this year's America's Best Restroom
contest, sponsored by Cintas Corporation's Sanis brand of restroom services.

The contest, in its fifth year, was created to honor businesses that
maintain exceptional cleanliness in their public restrooms.

Besides the Quad-City airport, the other finalists are: All Season's Bistro,
in Lansing, Mich.; Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, in Atlantic City; Hemenway's,
a restaurant in Providence, R.I.; and Wendell's, a Westerville, Ohio,
restaurant.

The public can vote online at http://www.bestrestroom.com through March 31.
The site includes a photographic tour of each of the finalists restrooms.

Bruce Carter, the airport's aviation director, said he had no idea there was
such a contest until he was notified about a month ago.

"We do get good compliments about the terminal and its cleanliness," said
Carter. "That's just a tribute to the staff who do a nice job and work hard
to keep it first-class."

The five finalists were chosen from among about 30 nominees, contest
officials said.

"The important message here is that restroom hygiene is important - for good
health and good business," said Kirk Kirssin, Cintas' marketing director.
"People form perceptions about the way companies do business based on a
simple trip to the restroom. That's something we help thousands of customers
manage."

The airport's restrooms were part of a project to expand the terminal.

Jessica Bensten, the contest's survey editor, said the restrooms were
inviting, especially if you had just walked off a plane.

The winner of the contest will be announced in April.
